Aldbourne CAN Testimonials
"For the past year I have been a regular at the CAN and have found the premises and the use of their computers, primarily for sending/receiving emails, invaluable. Alas, I am moving out of the area and relocating to the West Country but felt before I departed I would like to convey my personal thanks for the warm welcome I received by the dedicated people of all ages, who run the CAN and by those that I have had the pleasure to meet whilst in their company.
Special praise must go to Amy Wallis, the youth worker, who is present from Monday to Wednesday evening and does a fantastic job in putting together a broad range of activities for the children of all ages based on their collaboration. The voluteer youth workers must also come in for special praise namely Hazel Keen, Paul and Di Lott, James Keen, Matt Gibbs, Carol Flinders and Micheal Edmonds who assist in the running of the CAN and put in so many hours of their own time for the good of the community as a whole. Without them the CAN could not operate. The CAN is a safe environment and is open most days of the week. If it is not open it can be by request. The CAN also offers computer training. The Youth Council operate from the CAN and there is a Youth Council meeting held every first Tuesday in the month where they are encouraged to discuss topical matters that concern them within the village and any projects that they would like to undertake. The latest exciting project upon which they are working on is the planning of a new play area in Aldbourne which is to be sited in Palmers Field. I have been very impressed by the imput of those youngsters who have regularly turned up at the CAN/Youth Council and have got involved. These are our future players. I wish the CAN every success now and in the future and I leave by saying if you have not ventured in to the CAN then I would urge you to do so. It is not just for the young. It is a place to socialise and partake of refreshments, learn new skills, brush up on the latest technology, or just to simply use the computers. It does not cost you anything though a voluntary contribution is always very welcome. We need to support the CAN and use it on a regular basis because as the saying goes 'If you do not use it you will lose it'. Thank you and Goodbye Annie Mackley-Smith" "Dear Editor,

My wife and I moved into Aldbourne just over a year ago. Our move was couincidential with me changing computer provider for many reasons, for least of all the supply of a reliable 'phone line'. We found ourselves without the use of email communication. The opportunity to use The CAN to keep us up to date was without doubt a life saver. I also introduced my wife and I to people living in the village and was a help to associate children to adult friends that we were making. Long may The CAN continue - it provides a wonderful meeting place and a potential help as a learning centre. Yours Truthfully Terry Way" |
"About two months ago I decided it was time I started to learn about how to use a computer. So I decided to pay a visit to the Youth Council centre, The CAN.
I was met by Hazel Keen who was duty adult in charge this particular evening. Hazel showed me around and introduced me to several young members. I was very impressed to see young people of all ages getting along with one another and behaving extremely well. I was soon sitting in front of a computer being shown the basics of using the computer and being shown me very eager young people. By the time I left that evening I was very pleased to think that i could now switch the computer on and off and master the controlling of the 'mouse', and couldn't wait to visit again. I have been visiting the CAN now regularly at least two nights a week and can now work on my own sending and recieving e.mails and can talk to my grandchildren on Facebook. I am now looking forward to buying my own computer and all this is made possible by me visiting the CAN and being taught by young people eager to help me when i required help. I hope more people of my age do the same as i did and make use of the facility which I think the people of Aldbourne ought to be proud of, they then they to can become a silver headed surfer like me. Thank You to all members of the Youth Council Ray Chapman" "Since I lost my husband two years ago I have been using the CAN on a fairly regular basis. This has been very helpful to me at a difficult stage in my life. I have benefitted greatly from Paul and Di's teaching, at the same time enjoying the company of other users and having the occasional cup of coffee.
I believe that the CAN is a marvellous asset to the young and old of the village, and would miss it greatly should anything happen to cause its closure. Mary Hope" "Dear Hazel
