Josh Brown wins the Robbie Endeavour Award from Youth Action Wiltshire and Community First
Josh is 14 and volunteered to join Aldbourne Youth Council as a young treasurer. He has been extremely committed to the role, coming up with fundraising events, organising them and implementing almost immediately. One of his own ideas was during the World Cup where he printed off a sheet where people could pick out of the hat a team to win. 50% went to the Aldbourne CAN Internet Cafe, 50% went in prize money. He adds up and displays the Donation Box total every month, counts the cash from tuck sales, completes the tuck shop stock taking for the Adult Treasurer Trustee and helps to develop the Aldbourne Youth Council website.
At the Internet Cafe (Aldbourne C.A.N) Josh has been instrumental in helping a member of the public who had very little computer knowledge to confidently build up their skills.
" I have been visiting the C.A.N now regularly at least two nights a week and can now work on my own sending and receiving E-Mails and can talk to my grandchildren on Facebook. I am now looking forward to buying my own computer and all this is made possible by me visiting the C.A.N and being tought by young people eager to help me when I required help. I hope more people of my age do the same as I did and make use of the facility which I think the people of Aldbourne ought to be proud of, they then too can become a silver headed surfer like me. Thank You to all members of the Youth Council." Ray Chapman.
Josh is now busy putting together testimonials for the CAN to present to the Aldbourne Parish Council as evidence to show that it is not just young people who value the facility in our village.
He is our most proactive young member of Aldbourne Youth Council and an inspiration for other young people to follow. Adult Trustee Carol Flinders said when asked who she thought we should nominate: " My first thought was Josh, he's brilliant in the CAN, as you say he is always helpful and patient with me if I don't know anything about the computers. He's been an angel with Ray, he does all the posters, he's a credit to the youth of this village."
We need more Josh's in the world helping in their communities. More people should know about the positive effects that young people with so much energy can deliver when encouraged and given a little support and guidance - Congratulations Josh, its well deserved and we are all very proud of you - Hazel Keen AYC Trustee
