Rural Youth Worker Project
AYC Young people taking the initiative
To create a more active programme of events that not only involve young people from Aldbourne but also Baydon and Ramsbury young people the Youth Council have employed a permanent youth worker. This has been made possible for 2011/12 thanks to a fundraising lunch supported by Brian Kingham and Friends and financial support from Ramsbury and Baydon Parish Council.
The Youth Worker will provide consistent and regular support to plan and organise activities, events and outings and will act as a guide to help young people to learn and develop their interests.
The aim is to empower and encourage young people to develop a wide range of interests and to appreciate the many opportunities available to them to develop their talents and abilities and to make things happen for themselves.
Based on 2001 census data the rural youth worker project has the potential to support 427 young people age 11-18 in the Ramsbury, Aldbourne and Baydon area alone. The Youth Council is open to all young people in Aldbourne and surrounding villages no matter what their age.
Photographs from Brian Kingham and friends fundraising lunch June 2011 which raised a massive £3000.00 towards our youth worker wages for 2011/12 can be found on our Facebook page.
The Youth Council is grateful for everyone's support, in particular Brian Kingham and Friends. Next year, Mr Kingham has kindly agreed to host another fundraising lunch to help fund 2012/13 youth worker wages. For the youth services to continue, we need to raise £6000.00 per year. This provides 12hrs youth worker support per week.
Date for your diary: Sunday 27th May 2012 Summer Lunch in Mr Kinghams garden. If you would like more information, please contact Hazel on 07500992178 or email committee(at)aldbourneyouthcouncil.co.uk
